The Centrale des unions du Québec (CSQ) is announcing its priorities, as a new parliamentary session begins Tuesday with the opening speech by Premier François Legault.
The future of early childhood centers (CPE), the labor shortage in education, the reform of the voting system and the place of women in the economic recovery are the main concerns of the Central Trade Union.
The CSQ believes that the Quebec government has enough leverage to invest in the development of the early childhood network, while Ottawa promises to inject $ 6 billion.
According to the CSQ, Quebec must put an end to the labor shortage which is seriously affecting services in the school and college network.
“We will not be able to continue on the same trajectory hoping that the problem of recruitment and attraction is resolved by itself,” said Sunday the president of the CSQ, Eric Gingras, by press release.
The CSQ reminds the Caquist government of its promise to reform the voting system for “more democratic political representation” in the National Assembly, while the provincial elections are scheduled in less than a year.
As women have been more affected by the economic crisis due to the pandemic, the CSQ wants the Prime Minister’s opening speech to devote an important place to them.
In this regard, the Central Syndicate would like a commitment from the Minister of Labor to revise the Pay Equity Act.
“A few weeks before the 25th anniversary of the Pay Equity Act, the government can choose to embody this priority by allowing women to obtain full recognition for their work,” added Mr. Gingras.
