(San Salvador) Thousands of people demonstrated in San Salvador on Sunday against corruption and what they see as an authoritarian drift in the country, days after the United States sanctioned a close aide to President Nayib Bukele.
“As a country, we are fed up with the abuse of public officials with the resources of the people,” lawyer Eduardo Alvarenga, 37, who held a banner calling for an end to corruption, said during the march in the city. call from several organizations.
The United States on Thursday imposed economic sanctions for alleged “corruption” against Carolina Recinos, the chief of staff of Nayib Bukele. President Bukele called these accusations “absurd”.
After the demonstration, which went off without incident, he attacked the US government.

Judges and former judges also took part in the protest, calling for respect for the separation of powers after the ruling party-dominated Congress dismissed Supreme Court justices in May, then elderly judges over 60 years old.
