A day punctuated by searches. The homes of several key protagonists in the investigation into the management of the Marianne fund for the fight against “separatism” were searched on Tuesday, June 13. Journalist Mohamed Sifaoui, co-responsible for the main beneficiary association of the fund, the Union of Physical Education and Military Preparation Societies (USEPPM), was expected at 9 a.m. in front of the senators. At the opening of the debates, Senator Claude Raynal, chairman of the commission of inquiry, indicated that “Since 6 a.m., a search has been underway at his home”, preventing him from being able to honor this appointment. A search also took place at the home of Cyril Karunagaran, the other USEPPM leader.
The home of Christian Gravel, the prefect in charge of allocating grants from the Marianne fund, was also searched, learned France Télévisions and franceinfo from sympathetic sources. He had resigned from his post last week after the publication of a report by the General Inspectorate of Administration questioning his management. Finally, another search took place at the home of Ahlam Menouni, the president of Reconstruire le Commun, the second winning association.
These searches “Intervene in the context of the judicial information opened on May 4, 2023 on the counts of ’embezzlement of public funds’, ’embezzlement of public funds by negligence’, ‘breach of trust’ and ‘illegal taking of interests'”a judicial source told franceinfo.
