I think of the people who lend a hand to people deported because of the smoke, the canteens who prepare food, the bus drivers who help the population to move and all the others.
To all these firefighters, airplane pilots, and the various specialists who manage on the ground.
To those parents who swallow their own fear to reassure their children about the devastation these fires could continue to cause.
As we have seen in several situations, such as the 1998 ice storm, our population is capable of showing heroism and resilience in crisis situations.
However, our leaders rely far too much on these fine faculties of our people.
We deserve governments that protect us better.

Prevention to better protect
Whether or not these wildfires have anything to do with climate change, whether we face major environmental challenges in the near future or not, we deserve governments that, through preventive measures , do everything possible to avoid the worst.
François Legault spoke this week of “[…] the need to invest in what is called adaptation to climate change”.
And if our governments had invested long before in this so-called “adaptation”, would we have a different portrait of our future today?
It is the least we can do that a brave population like ours is supported by strong governments that do everything in their power to ensure that we have the brightest possible future on this planet.
