Presence of norovirus | Alasko brand frozen fruit recalled

(Montreal) The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall on Saturday concerning bags of Alasko brand frozen whole raspberries and frozen antioxidant mix due to the presence of norovirus.

The two products, sold in one and five kilogram containers, have been distributed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.

The main symptoms of illnesses caused by a norovirus are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and abdominal cramps.

People who have been exposed to the virus usually show symptoms within 24 to 48 hours, but symptoms may appear as early as 12 hours after exposure, the agency said.

It is recommended, as with any illness causing diarrhea or vomiting, to drink plenty of fluids to replace lost body fluids and prevent dehydration.

These frozen fruits should not be eaten, used, sold, served or distributed. They must be thrown away or returned to the place where they were purchased.
