Ouest-France has decided. The regional press group has chosen to no longer publish political polls in connection with the campaign for the 2022 presidential election.

Ouest-France, the largest regional press group in France, has decided not to publish any political poll during the duration of the 2022 presidential campaign. “I have nothing against the polls”, assures François-Xavier Lefranc, editor-in-chief of Ouest-France. However, he denounces “an avalanche of polls which is used to hammer things home, to stuff the heads of citizens. It is unbearable”, he says.

Questioned in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) Sunday, October 24, some passers-by approve this decision. “Ouest-France is right to suppress the polls and come back to reality”, testifies one of them. The numbers displayed in the polls create “a dynamic which can sometimes be dangerous”, according to a resident. The pollsters plead not guilty for their part. “It is not the polls that make the opinion. There are many other elements, they are not the alpha and omega of political life”, explains Véronique Reille-Soult, president of Backbone Consulting.
