The 79th anniversary of the landing took place on the beaches of Normandy. Forty American soldiers and the last French survivor made the trip, notably to Omaha Beach in Calvados.
Charles Norman Shay was in medical aid during the landing at Omaha Beach (Calvados). His presence at the American cemetery on Tuesday, June 6, seems natural to him. “I’m a little sad, I think of all thiss men buried in the cemetery here. I have a very good friend who is here, he died in my arms”, moves the veteran.
Veterans hope to be there for the 80th anniversary of the landings
Papa Jake came too. The social media star was transmitter during the war. He considers himself a survivor, before being a hero. “I am here to honor those who gave their lives. I came out of it all without any scratch”he explains. Centenarians command everyone’s admiration and joke about it among themselves. The emotion was strong for the veterans, and all hope to be there next year for the 80th anniversary of the landing.
