Roquefort-les-Pins (Alpes-Maritimes) received a bequest of 8 million euros from a resident who died a few months ago. The amount will go directly into the coffers of the municipality.
The town hall of Roquefort-les-Pins (Alpes-Maritimes) has just received the inheritance of a resident of the town, who died last year at the age of 100. The sum amounts to 8 million euros. “It’s huge (…) I don’t know how she managed to have so much money”, says a resident. Single, childless, Romaine Carlès owned land and several properties. She had written her will in secret 20 years ago.
700,000 euros for the SPA
The town hall discovers it itself. “The Mayor was very surprised. It is a timely legacy. It is surprising because he did not know that 20 years ago already, she had planned in her will to donate her entire inheritance to the municipality”, says France Zattara, cabinet and communication manager for the town hall. The only obligation of the deceased is the construction of a new school. Romaine Carlès would also have left 700,000 euros to the SPA.
