Alexander Zverev has no interest in being an early bird. The German faces Frances Tiafoe in a “night session”, Saturday June 3 for his third round of Roland-Garros, two days after having already played at this time. Zverev, now 27th at the ATP, made short work of Alex Molcan on Thursday evening (6-4, 6-2, 6-1) and hopes to put the cover back on the Philippe-Chatrier court.
But his evening opponent is of a completely different caliber. The 12th player in the world, the American Frances Tiafoe is a tough player who can pose problems for “Sascha” Zverev. He knocked out Aslan Karatsev in the previous round in four sets, but is no clay-court specialist. The two players have never met on ochre, but already have seven confrontations. And the scales tilted sharply in favor of Zverev, with six wins to one.
