Brittany Phelan made it big on Saturday for her second World Cup of the season in Val Thorens, France. The Quebec skier collected her first medal in almost two years by winning silver in the women’s ski cross event.
The Mont-Tremblant athlete took second place from the first moments of the final race and she managed to keep it despite the many attacks from Marielle Berger Sabbatel. The Frenchwoman moved closer to Phelan in the last few meters of the course, but the Canadian representative was able to hold on to make her way for the silver.
In the end, only the Swedish Sandra Naeslund beat Phelan who at the same time climbed on the podium of a World Cup for the first time since her third place collected in Idre Fjall (Sweden), in January 2020.
“I am really happy ! There were several delays this week due to the bad weather so I was happy to have kept my game plan without getting distracted by anything. I’m very happy with my skiing and it’s really good to be back on the podium after almost two years of rehabilitation, ”said the one who finished fifth in Secret Garden (China) two weeks ago.
It was then her first outing since suffering a serious left knee injury in early 2020.
