Review — “Legendary Women”, Élisabeth Pion

Élisabeth Pion is a pianist of culture, temperament and talent that you will hear about again (she will record a concerto by Hélène de Montgeroult with Arion). This CD, released on May 25, her first recital, covers the program of a concert she will give on Sunday in Saint-Lambert as part of the Classica Festival. “For me, this first album is meant to be a birth, and by this very fact the reflection of my artistic vision”, declares the pianist. When this “birth” includes Dutilleux (By the wavesan early work in which his style does not yet appear), a Lullaby of The Exterminating Angel d’Adès and tributes to Lili Boulanger and Mel Bonis, whose cyclelegendary women gives his title to the disc, you understand that the artist has guts. Elisabeth Pion adds one of her compositions and the happy Island by Debussy, a very good idea to show his temper in passing, which is more like rhythmic “sound watchers”, like Austbø or Koroliov, than vaporous Debussystes. Successful debut!
