End clap for the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This Saturday, May 27, 2023, the closing ceremony of the famous event took place, a ceremony during which the members of the jury were able to award the famous Palme d’Or. One year after the coronation of Without filter (Triangle of Sadness)by the Swedish director, Ruben Östlund, it was the French filmmaker, Justine Triet, who won the prestigious prize for her film Anatomy of a fall in which Sandra Hüller gives the reply to Arthur Harari. A feature film which depicts the trial of a mother suspected of having murdered her husband.
Proud to have conquered the Croisette, the 44-year-old director thanked her collaborators at length on the stage of the Palais des Festivals before tackling a completely different subject. During her speech, the latter denounced the pension reform and pointed to police violence. “This year, the country has been crossed by a historic dispute,extremely powerful, unanimous on pension reform. This challenge has been shockingly denied and repressed and this increasingly uninhibited dominating power pattern breaks out in several areas“, she launched under the applause of the room.

If Justine Triet’s speech inspired more than one, Jane Fonda, for her part, did not seem to appreciate the director’s intervention. Indeed, when leaving the stage, the filmmaker left her diploma on the desk in order to go and thank the members of the jury for having crowned her last cinematographic project. A diploma which Jane Fonda took before throwing it on the back of the winner. A gesture that aroused strong reactions.
