Is Whit Monday a public holiday like any other? We take stock with journalist Hugo Capelli, present on the set of 12/13, Monday, May 29.

“Pentecost Monday is one of the eleven calendar holidays”introduces Hugo Capelli, present on the set of 12/13Monday May 29. However, he qualifies: “Since the deadly heat wave of 2003, the government has decreed a compulsory day of solidarity for the benefit of the elderly and disabled.” In practice, employees are invited to work for free for a day. Since 2008, companies have organized themselves à la carte.

€3.2 billion

“Companies can make their employees work today. This is the case for 3 out of 10 employees. Otherwise, the employer can also offer to keep this public holiday and in return remove a day off or RTT”, details the journalist who recalls that other solutions exist. The proceeds from this day of solidarity are donated to the National Solidarity Fund for Autonomy. This year, the amount is estimated at 3.2 billion euros.
