The policeman was hit by a car while securing a portion of the RN 137, after the arrest of a driver who was traveling in the wrong direction. The driver of the vehicle that injured the officer is on the run and actively sought.
The accident occurred a little after 11 p.m. on Friday May 26, at the Boucholeurs exit, on the RN 137. A police officer from the night crime squad was busy trying to slow down traffic on the national, in order to secure an arrest zone, when he was hit by a vehicle which fled.
Injured, he was transported by the emergency services, in relative emergency, to the hospital center of La Rochelle.
A call for witnesses is launched
A investigation was opened for involuntary injury and hit and run. She was entrusted to the gendarmerie brigade of Rochefort. A call for witnesses was launched.
According to several witnesses, it was indeed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the Rochelaise ring road which was the cause of the police intervention.
Earlier this week, a road operator died after being hit by a car while working with a colleague to rescue a heavy goods vehicle.
