The disappearance and suicide of 13-year-old Lindsay once again raises the issue of school bullying. Here is the testimony of another teenager, a 3rd grade student in the same establishment.
The voicemail is from just a few weeks ago. Yet another hateful message from a few colleagues in his class, and which sends shivers down my spine. The girl experiences constant harassment. Since entering college in Vendin-le-Vieil, in Pas-de-Calais, four years ago, she has been the laughingstock of students on her physique, in class and on the networks. On Friday again, she paid tribute to Lindsay, this other schoolgirl who ended her life, following the school harassment of which she was the victim. A passage to the act that the teenager understands. “I am sometimes told to ignore it, to do nothing but talk about it. I can’t do it, it makes me want to disappear even more”testifies the young girl.
The establishment has never summoned the bullying students
Words difficult to hear for his dad, who asked the college supervisors on several occasions. “We can’t do anything because we don’t have any evidence. (…) What do we have to bring back as evidence? A dagger in the back? A broken arm? We wonder how we can do “, he laments. The establishment ended up offering a more diligent follow-up of the teenager, but never summoned the students who harass her.
So the young girl isolated herself, until she no longer wanted to go to class, with the agreement of her parents. “I have to make a choice between finding a letter from the Academy, or finding my suicidal daughter?!” his father is indignant. And since this tragedy, his mother lives even more fear in the stomach. “When I leave the house, I text every 30 minutes, and if she doesn’t answer me, I’m not well”, confides his mother. The family is still considering filing a complaint, but above all they are waiting for a strong gesture from the school.
