On the evening of Friday May 26, Marseille celebrated the 30th anniversary of OM’s victory in the Champions League, with fireworks and smoke bombs.

Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) ignited with fireworks and more than 8,000 smoke bombs along the entire coast. 30 years after its historic victory in the Champions League, Olympique de Marseille broadcast a video filmed by drone to relay the extent of the celebration. Fan groups had called out thousands of fans to remember May 26, 1993. “We achieved something extra. There are gossips who will criticize us, but at least we have something to celebrate”says a fan.

Former players present for the anniversary

In front of the replay of the final won 30 years ago, the fervor remained intact and is transmitted to the youngest who did not experience the event. Some heroes of 1993 presented themselves to the crowd: Basile Boli, Fabien Barthez, and Éric Di Meco. The anniversary was celebrated without Bernard Tapie, who died two years ago. In a few months, the esplanade which leads to the Stade Vélodrome should bear the name of the emblematic president of the club.
