The Tottenham-Rennes meeting in the Europa League Conference, scheduled for Thursday 9 December, was officially canceled on Saturday 11 December, due to cases of Covid-19 within the English team. “Unfortunately, and despite all efforts, a solution which could suit both clubs could not be found.“, indicated a spokesperson to AFP, specifying that the score by forfeit of this group match would be determined by its body of control and discipline.
L’UEFA initially announced the postponement of the match via a press release. Wednesday, Spurs coach Antonio Conte had confirmed that eight players and five staff members tested positive for Covid-19: “Every day, there are people with Covid who were not positive the day before. The situation is not good“, he declared at a press conference.
Rennes, leader of the group, has already qualified for the round of 16, Tottenham had to win to snatch 2nd place, synonymous with play-offs, at Vitesse Arnhem. 3rd place would eliminate him from the competition.
