A tribute in all the hospitals of France. The Minister of Health and Prevention, François Braun, asked “a minute of silence in all hospitals” Wednesday, May 24 at noon, two days after the attack on two employees of the CHU de Reims (Marne) which cost the life of a nurse on Monday. “I ask tomorrow noon in all hospitals, a minute of silence in tribute to Carène”the nurse whose deadly assault “is a drama that annihilates us all”he said on Tuesday at the Santexpo show, organized by the French Hospital Federation (FHF).
A 59-year-old man from Reims “with a psychiatric history”, according to the minister, stabbed a 38-year-old nurse and a medical secretary with a kitchen knife on the hospital grounds shortly before 1:30 p.m. The attack on the two women occurred while they were in a locker room. The man then tried to flee, but was quickly arrested by hospital security officers. He was then picked up by the police.
The seriously injured nurse was taken care of by several surgeons in the operating room. She finally succumbed to her injuries, François Braun announced on Tuesday morning. The other victim is a 56-year-old medical secretary. His vital prognosis is not engaged.
