Favorites: Respecting Scorsese
Martin Scorsese’s press conference, with Robert de Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio was great. Alongside them are Indigenous actress Lily Gladstone and Osage Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. While the mythical duo of actors should have taken all the light, many questions were asked about the community at the heart of the film, which experienced a terrible tragedy a century ago. Mutual respect was palpable among all. This desperate desire of the filmmaker and the performers to confront the racist demons of the American past was transmitted to the assembly. “The foray into the history of the Osages and the ceremonies that we experienced with them in Oklahoma helped me not only as a director but as a human being”, specified Scorsese.
Rant: Thierry Frémaux on his bike
