During this Ascension weekend, the Teknival, a techno music festival which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, will bring together at least 30,000 people in Villegongis (Indre). Although the gathering is not allowed, it will be tolerated until Sunday.
In front of a surrounding wall in Villegongis (Indre), the party has been in full swing since Thursday evening May 18. They are already 20,000 festival-goers, from all over Europe, to have gathered, despite the ban from the prefecture, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Teknival. “Me, I don’t mind at all defying the police to come and spend these moments with all the people I love”, said one of them. The wild gathering takes place on a private agricultural land of 70 hectares in the heart of Indre.
86 people already rescued
The owner of the land has not been notified, nor the authorities, who can no longer dislodge them. “How do you want to evacuate 30,000 people, if not by force? (…) Are we looking for the castagne? (…) No”, explains the mayor of the town Jean-Marc Sevault. 240 gendarmes are present, supported by dog brigades, a helicopter flies over the area. The gathering is tolerated until Sunday, but a mini-city has sprung up in less than 24 hours, causing some concern among residents. An advanced medical post has been set up. Rescuers have already assisted 86 people, including a man in his forties, crushed by a vehicle, in absolute emergency.
