In order to cover the Cannes Film Festival as it should, Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, Bertrand Chameroy, and Pierre Lescure flew to the south of France and put their suitcases directly on the Croisette. Every day, they receive the star actors and directors of the moment to talk about the films presented during the Festival.
This Tuesday, May 16, 2023, it is the film “Jeanne du Barry” directed by Maïwenn and with Johnny Depp which opened the ball for screenings. The day after the premiere, the cast went on to interview the press. Maïwenn actress and director was therefore on the set of “C à vous” relocated to Cannes to answer questions from Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine. The interview started quite tense when the host tried to do an anecdote about the film but was rebuffed by the actress.
“I’d rather not talk about it”
The rest of the interview was just as laborious because Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine mentioned the affair between journalist Edwy Plenel and Maïwenn, the latter having recently admitted having hit him. ” “You admitted to attacking the journalist Edwy Plenel […] He spoke for the first time in an interview for the American magazine Variety. He said he was ‘stunned’, he was hoping for an apology from you but as they are not coming at the moment, he announced his wish to take legal action on principle. You still don’t want to explain this gesture?”
Annoyed, the director immediately responded by saying: “I want to talk about Jeanne du Barry”. Not enough to stop the host who insisted: “Do you regret this gesture?”. To which Maïwenn retorted: “Did you ask him the question if he regrets it?”. “If he was there, I would ask him the question,” then assured the host. “Ask him” then answered Maïwenn curtly.
And Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine to bounce back: “Regretting what?”. Tired of having to talk about this story, Maïwenn then once again tried to close the debate: “I prefer not to talk about it. I don’t regret it, that’s it!”.
