The approximately 7,000 teachers eligible for retirement who agree to stay on full-time for the next school year will receive a check for $12,000.

This was announced on Wednesday by the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, who wants to intensify negotiations with new measures, in particular for the health and education sectors.
“I am announcing that we will hold intensive negotiations on the organization of work from mid-May until the end of the summer. We will offer as many meetings as necessary to the unions to accelerate the rhythm at the sectoral tables, declared Ms. LeBel.
“I am happy that the government is offering a lump sum of $12,000 to encourage teachers who want to delay their retirement by one year,” said Education Minister Bernard Drainville.
For the health sector, Quebec has decided to extend until the end of the summer the bonuses offered to health and social services personnel, as well as the public service bonuses which will be in effect during the same period. .
“Schedule management poses several challenges, but we must make sure to give staff vacations, while providing quality care to Quebecers,” added Health Minister Christian Dubé.
