Gun violence | 7.5 million for the collection of criminal intelligence

After repression and prevention, Quebec is focusing on the collection of criminal intelligence: $7.5 million will be invested in the creation of an integrated intelligence squad on armed violence, a first in the province.

Public Security Minister François Bonnardel made the announcement on Tuesday morning, on the sidelines of a seminar on armed violence. “We are talking about $7.5 million over five years. This is a first in Quebec. Information is the sinews of war. »

A total of 14 police officers will make up this new team. Nine officers will come from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), three from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), one from the Longueuil police and another from Laval.

The initiative aims to “centralize intelligence” in addition to linking police and correctional services.

Part of this new team will be interested in social networks to keep a lookout, added Minister Bonnardel.
