traders ask for a reaction

In the city center of Villerupt (Meurthe-et-Moselle) in the morning, it is difficult to imagine that a shooting took place on May 13 in the evening. At the foot of a building, five people were wounded by bullets. For the mayor of the town, the only relief is that the alleged shooter was arrested in the early hours of the day. “It’s a relief. Relief because at least it will take away some of the fear that there was in the city of a possible return or another shooting”he justifies.

Two of the victims between life and death

On the evening of the tragedy, around twenty casings were found under a porch, which served as a point of sale for drugs. Two of the five victims are still between life and death. The alleged assailant is a 38-year-old man, known to law enforcement as a notorious trafficker. This traffic has been denounced for years by traders and elected officials who are asking for police reinforcements. “We must stem the problem, cut the evil at the root as quickly as possible”, launches the president of the merchants of the city. This week, the Minister of the Interior promised 500 additional police officers in September for medium-sized towns affected by the increase in traffic.
