Every week, The Press scans the TV offer to identify four titles to watch.

The surprise : Love and Death

Inspired by a news item, this dramatic miniseries written by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland, madmen) tells the story of Candy (excellent Elizabeth Olsen), a stay-at-home mom from small town Texas, who decides to start an extramarital affair with Allan (Jesse Plemons), the spouse of a good friend. Whoops. This tortuous affair will come to a tragic and violent end. We learn this in the first episode, whose action is set in 1980. Love and Death (love and death) then plunges us, via a throwback, into the aesthetics of the 1970s, a decade of macrame on the wall, electric knives and Bee Gees tunes.

The novelty : Get me out of here!… but not right away

After eating bugs, crying in gangs and sleeping in the middle of the jungle in Get me out of here!, Nathalie Simard and Marianne St-Gelais return to Costa Rica to pilot this tourism series of 10 30-minute episodes, in which they practice all kinds of characteristic activities of the country (deep sea fishing, horseback riding). In the first episode, the duo go surfing with an instructor named Carlos, who practices pura vida, a local expression that must be found on all kinds of cushions (beach towels, cushions, frames) at the souvenir shop. They end their day with a “replenishment session” combining meditation and body treatments.

The roll of the dice: We got there

This new magazine shines the spotlight on 30 young people aged 14 to 25 who are “breaking the rules”… and its trio of hosts, made up of Jordan Dupuis, Vanessa Duchel and Anne-Lovely Étienne. Each episode deals with a specific theme. The one on body image features a meeting with Coco Labbée, an international model who lost all her hair due to a rare autoimmune condition called alopecia, Jade Cousineau, a 6’2″ tiktoker, and Lé Bernier , a 16-year-old non-binary trans person who proudly displays her scars on Instagram after undergoing a mastectomy. Gender identity and entrepreneurship are among the themes that will be explored during this first season.

The return : Dr Sébastien, veterinarian

Although we appreciate The furry onesSébastien Kfoury’s animal talk show that ICI Télé broadcasts every Sunday at 7:30 p.m., we prefer his other show, D^r Sebastian, veterinarian, a docu-reality that explores the daily life of a veterinary hospital. Last year, the facility was overwhelmed with new patients due to a certain COVID-19 pandemic, which led to an explosion in the number of pet adoptions. This year, the center is much less congested, to the delight of the staff, who can finally breathe. Among the most interesting episodes this season is the one on animal anxiety, a disorder that affects about 10% of dogs.
