Student charged with attempted murder after stabbing teacher in Montreal

The 16-year-old who allegedly stabbed a teacher at John F. Kennedy School in Montreal on Thursday has been charged with attempted murder.

The young person, who cannot be identified by court order since he is a minor, could even receive an adult sentence if he is found guilty.

He presented himself with his mother to the Youth Court on Friday morning, some 24 hours after being arrested.

His actions had caused a stir in this English-speaking high school in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal.

The teacher in his 40s was giving a lesson in front of the students in his class, when a student broke into the room shortly after 10 a.m. and stabbed him in the upper body with a sharp object.

The teacher suffered serious injuries, but there is no fear for his life.
