Marie Myriam, the last French winner of the competition, settles her account at La Zarra!

The 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place on Saturday May 13, 2023 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool (United Kingdom).

Although the performance of the representative of France, La Zarra was praised, the young woman finished in 16th place (certainly better than the Breton group Alvan & Ahez who came in 24th last year, editor’s note), far, very far behind Sweden which won thanks to Loreen. The latter was considered the favorite with her hit Tattoo. Moreover, she had already imposed herself in 2012 with the title Euphoria.

But during this evening, the Quebec singer distinguished herself with a gesture that makes people talk. When her result was announced, the Quebec singer made a gesture in front of the camera that looks like a finger of honor.

Faced with the press, the artist defended herself by saying that her gesture was in no way an arm of honor but a “toz”. “I’m on a double culture. It’s not a negative gesture. It’s just a gesture of disappointment that we use between friends”she said at the end of the evening. “There are a lot of gestures you can use in other countries that mean other things.”

Marie Myriam shocked!

An explanation that Marie Myriam does not believe, crowned in 1977 with the title the Bird and the Child. “This gesture at the end of the evening because she did not win, it is really shocking”she reacted in an interview with our colleagues from the Parisian. “Watch the video, it’s a middle finger! And it’s been seen by almost 200,000 million viewers. What a shame! I’m extremely disappointed because it’s just not possible. She made this gesture sitting in an armchair with French flags behind her. France does not deserve this! She justifies herself by saying that this gesture expresses a disappointment in Moroccan culture, but it will start a racist controversy that we really do not need. I know exactly the stress you feel before you sing, when you count the points, the tension that rises… But nothing explains why you slip up!”

A controversy that tarnishes the beautiful performance of the interpreter of Obviously!
