The Eurovision final takes place on Saturday May 13 in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. Beyond the group, it’s the whole city that has the music pegged to the body.
In Liverpool (United Kingdom), it is an invisible monument between the docks, the stadium and the cathedral. Here, music is part of the landscape, and not just during Eurovision. The Beatles were born here, and are still all over the city. In his pop-coloured coach, Neil Brannan has been taking tourists in the group’s footsteps for 23 years. “The fact that they come from Liverpool made them four unique characters. They didn’t speak like the others, had this very particular slight accent”, comments Neil Brannan. The Beatles are not the only ones to have been inspired by the port city, whose charms sailors have long sung. Today, it is at the stadium that the collective songs resonate, including the famous You’ll Never Walk Alone. The 1963 hit has become the anthem and slogan of Liverpool Football Club.
