10 events not to miss

This Saturday, May 13, nearly 1,300 museums throughout France will be open late in the evening, on the occasion of the European Night of Museums. Like every year, many events are organized especially for the occasion, with an eclectic program. Update on some cultural events offered.

1 At the Gadagne Museum in Lyon, theater and an electro concert

The Gadagne Museum, in Lyon, is offering an outdoor theater play, in the form of a fashion show. In a show called Let’s march, let’s recycle, let’s refilthe company “Il sera une fois” plays two theatrical wanderings, at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The evening will continue with an electro concert by the artist Mézinc, “A live full of energy and freedom”, promises the museum, which will exceptionally close its doors at 11 p.m.

2 In Belfort, Alexandrians in sign language

At the Museum of Fine Arts-Tour 41 in Belfort, seventh-grade students were invited to perform a special performance. Alexandrian poems, written by young people and inspired by the works of the museum, have been translated into sign language to make them accessible to all. From 8 p.m., they will present their work to visitors.

3 A fado concert at the Museum of Corsica

The Museum of Corsica, in Corte, offers a Portuguese fado concert with a trio led by singer Duarte, Pedro Amendoeira on Portuguese guitar and João Filipe on guitar. Music to listen to from 9 p.m., in addition to the visit of the museum, open to all from 3 p.m. to midnight.

4 In Paris, the National Archives open their doors

The National Archives open their doors to the public in Paris with, among other things, a guided tour Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III depots. Many documents from the Middle Ages and the Old Regime are kept there. Several visits are organized, in particular some dedicated to young audiences. The Chancellery of Orléans, recently restored, can also be explored.

5 The memory of Marie-Antoinette at the Cognacq-Jay Museum

At the Cognacq-Jay Museum in Paris, the artist Anne Perbal offers an original performance, The bun. A dance show, to the sound of music from the 18th century and the a capella voice of a soprano, inspired by the famous chignon of Queen Marie-Antoinette.

6 A costumed visit to the house of Charles de Gaulle

The birthplace of Charles de Gaulle, in Lille, offers a visit in Belle Époque costumes of the residence where the former President of the Republic was born. Night visits will last until 1am. An exceptional lighting of the exterior of the house is also planned.

7 Dance and music at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) in Nice is pulling out all the stops for the European Night of Museums. The evening will begin with a screening of the film Marcel Alocco: The Manufacture of Meaning by Alain Amiel, then will continue with a collage workshop linked to the work of Caroline Trucco. The company “El tercer Ojo” will offer an outdoor circus performance, followed by dancers from the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower. A grand finale is planned on the roof of the museum, in music with the percussionist students of the conservatory of Nice.

8 A dancing evening at the Château de Compiègne

The National Museum of the Château de Compiègne offers a journey through time towards the Second Empire. A dancing evening in the form of an imperial ball all afternoon and early evening, with initiations organized by the Carnet de bals association.

9 Virtual reality tour of the Resistance Museum

The Limoges Resistance Museum invites you to live the experience of the prisoners of the Second World War. Using a virtual reality headset, visitors will be immersed in a 9m² prison, to the rhythm of songs from the Second World War. “Escape games” are also organized throughout the evening, with one goal: to escape from the prison before the officers take the participants to the military council.

10 Electric atmosphere at the Electropolis Museum in Mulhouse

The Electropolis Museum in Mulhouse will be open from the afternoon, with workshops and experiments around the Whimshurst machine and the plasma lamp. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., theremin mini-concerts, one of the first electronic musical instruments, will be organized.
