According to Toon Cruyt, the doctor for his Soudal-Quick Step team, the 23-year-old Fleming “has a muscle hematoma and is hit in the sacrum”.

“Falling is never fun, especially so early in the Giro,” added Evenepoel. I feel pain in my back, I have big bruises. But that’s life, that’s racing. You have to deal with it and try to manage the pain as best you can and relax because I think I need a lot of energy to heal my wounds. »

The sixth stage Thursday, a loop of 162 kilometers around Naples, does not present any major difficulty, but that of Friday promises to be tougher with in particular a final ascent beyond 2000 meters of altitude.

“I hope not to have a bad day tomorrow, we’ll see, it’s a good thing that today’s stage is difficult, it will allow me to turn my legs,” said Evenepoel.
