It is the former boss of Videotron Manon Brouillette who will succeed Jacynthe Côté as president of the board of directors of Hydro-Québec.
The appointment was endorsed by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday and Mme Brouillette will take office on June 2 for a five-year term.
Manon Brouillette spent 14 years at Videotron, where she served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 2014 to 2018. She was then drafted by American telecommunications giant Verizon, headquartered in New York, to lead Verizon Consumers Group, its largest division. She left Verizon last December, less than a year after taking the job.
“Manon’s experience as a leader of service companies and a member of numerous boards of directors in various sectors of the economy is a major asset for Hydro-Québec as Québec’s energy transition begins”, underlined Jacynthe Côté, who announced her departure at the end of last year.
Hydro-Québec is still without a CEO since the departure of Sophie Brochu on April 11. The one who occupies the interim position, Pierre Despars, welcomed the Mme scramble. “On my behalf and on behalf of the great Hydro-Québec team, I warmly welcome Manon Brouillette,” said Mr. Despars. We are all happy that a woman of this caliber succeeds Jacynthe Côté, whom I thank once again for her great contribution over the past four years. »
“Hydro-Québec is a unique organization,” said Manon Brouillette in a press release. In addition to delivering an essential service, it is an integral part of our collective identity. Faced with the challenges posed by climate change and the strong growth in demand for clean electricity, the company has, once again, made a date with history. »
According to Hydro-Quebec, the new president of the board “will continue the work in progress which will lead to the appointment of the new or new CEO”.
