In France, while the Covid-19 crisis has shaken the cinema industry, it has been recovering since the last quarter of 2022. Attendance at French cinemas has risen sharply, almost reaching the figures preceding the pandemic. For this new issue of “We, the Europeans” (Twitter), heading to Italy, to the historic Cinecittà film studio.

260 million euros to relaunch Cinecittà

> THE GREAT REPORT

It is one of the most legendary film studios in the world. Cinecittà, the “city of cinema” in Rome, hosted countless international productions during the second half of the 20th century. At the dawn of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the one nicknamed “Hollywood-sur-Tibre” opened its doors to the teams of “We, the Europeans”. Victim of the boom in television productions, Cinecittà experienced a decline in popularity from the 1970s. But when in 2017, Italy was awarded more than 200 billion euros thanks to the European Recovery Plan, hope was reborn and 260 million euros will be devoted to the modernization and extension of Cinecittà to rebuild an important cinematographic pole in Europe. This by betting in particular on the production of films, series and documentaries, which are experiencing dazzling growth with the advent of streaming platforms. What, perhaps, to find the golden age of Italian cinema at the end of the 1950s.
