A call from the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ) is behind the intervention of the police at the residence of the wanted father on Tuesday following the triggering of an AMBER alert in Montreal for the kidnapping of his five month old child.
Around 5:20 p.m., the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) announced on its Twitter account that the wanted child had been found “safe and sound”, just minutes after the alert was triggered.
The police department later revealed that its agents had intervened in an apartment on boulevard Monk, in Ville-Émard, around 1:45 p.m., “to provide assistance to the workers of the DPJ”, who were worried about the child safety.
However, when the police and workers arrived on the scene, the father fled with the child. Fearing for his safety, an AMBER alert was triggered around 5 p.m. after the event was taken care of by the SPVM’s major crimes section.
Ten minutes later, during a check at the address of an acquaintance of the suspect, the police located the latter as well as the child. Although the toddler seemed to be doing well, he was taken to a hospital.
The suspect was arrested for kidnapping and transported to a detention center where he must be met by investigators in the coming hours.
