Quebec deploys its telephone help line for victims of abuse

On Tuesday, the Government of Quebec announced the gradual deployment of the services of the Elder Abuse Help Line (LAMAA) in all regions of Quebec.

This is a listening, assessment and referral telephone line that serves as a point of entry for any person, senior or adult in a situation of vulnerability, who experiences or witnesses a situation of mistreatment, and who wishes to be listened to or directed to the appropriate resource.

LAMAA services have been available since last month in the regions of Nunavik, Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James / Nord-du-Québec, Côte-Nord, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Starting in May, they are in Laval and Outaouais.

Next month, services will be offered in Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie and in the Centre-du-Québec region, before they are offered in September in Lanaudière, in the Laurentians, in the Capital region. -National and in Montérégie.

They will be offered in October in Montreal.

Workers from the Senior Adult Mistreatment Help Line also offer support to workers in the health and social services network, community organizations and legal and financial circles, in particular through a professional telephone consultation service.

Telephone service is available seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at 1 888 489-2287.
