Emmanuel Macron will pay tribute to Jean Moulin and the Resistance, Monday May 8 in Lyon, after the traditional victory ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. As at every celebration of the end of the Second World War, the Head of State went up the Champs-Elysées, accompanied by the large escort of the Republican Guard, on horseback and motorized. A tribute to Jean Moulin in Lyon. Emmanuel Macron is expected around 2.30 p.m. at the former Montluc prison, where Jean Moulin and other resistance fighters were detained, for a tribute to the “French resistance and the victims of Nazi barbarism”. The Head of State will be accompanied by the Keeper of the Seals, Eric Dupond-Moretti, the Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye, and the Secretary of State for Veterans and Memory, Patricia Miralles.
The president will recall “the essential political role” of Jean Moulin. In his speech, Emmanuel Macron intends to underline how the resistant allowed the unification of the Resistance and the emergence of a free France. He must also “to exalt through him this spirit of resistance which is specific to the French people”specifies the Elysée.
Commemorations under high security. Faced with the risk of “casserolades”, recurrent since the adoption of the pension reform, all gatherings have been banned near the Champs-Elysées. In Lyon, the situation could be tense with calls to demonstrate near the Montluc prison memorial. The Rhône prefecture has banned all gatherings in this area.
