“It’s a disappointment, I’m not going to say the opposite, that would be lying”reacts on Wednesday May 3 on franceinfo Patrick Kanner, PS senator from the North, president of the Socialist, environmentalist and republican group in the Senate, while the Constitutional Council rejects the second draft referendum of shared initiative (RIP) aimed at prohibiting a legal age retirement age over 62.
“We hoped that the Constitutional Council would take into account a request which is simple for us”, explains the chosen one. “We thought that the new wording of our request could have been the subject of an agreement from the Council. I take note, this is not the case but we are not stopping our fight for all that”assures the senator who affirms: “We will remain mobilized”.
“When a reform is bad, should we stop our mobilization?”he asks. “The answer is no”. According to him, “Just because the RIP was rejected doesn’t mean the fundamentals of our fight are bad.”
New referendum request in a year
Next deadlines for the president of the group in the Senate: “On June 6, we will be in the streets. On June 8, we will support the bill to return to 62 years”he declares in reference to the examination of a bill from the independent group Liot in the National Assembly to repeal the reform bringing the legal age of departure to 64 years. “In a year, he concludes, we will be able to reapply for a referendum and there with a real reform since we will return to the age of 62, that is our wish”.
