Floods in Charlevoix | Two firefighters were reportedly swept away

Two firefighters who came to help the residents of a flooded home were reportedly swept away by the waters in Saint-Urbain, in the Charlevoix region.

The Sûreté du Québec is currently working to confirm this information, Sergeant Claude Doiron said on Monday.

Access to the sector is made difficult since certain roads have been cut off due to the flooding of the Rivière du Gouffre and some of its tributaries which have come out of their beds. A Sûreté du Québec helicopter is currently heading to help locate potential victims.

A command post was also set up not far from there.

Reached by telephone, the director general of the municipality, Martin Guérin, confirmed that several residences in the village were currently flooded.

“We asked these people to leave to have access to different services,” he said, calling on those in need to go to the Saint-Urbain community center.
