The umbrella is in the spotlight. Up to 50 millimeters of rain could fall in several regions of Quebec, including the metropolis, from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning. It is the prelude to a rainy week, due to a low pressure system coming from the United States.
Environment Canada has issued a rain warning for the region of Montreal, Laval, as well as part of Montérégie, Lanaudière and the Laurentians.
In these regions, “sometimes heavy” rain is forecast. It should start in the afternoon on Saturday and continue until Monday, with a lull in the day on Sunday. A total of 30 to 50 millimeters of rain are expected.
The federal agency warns that “flooding in the lowlands” is possible.
In the northern Laurentians, in Outaouais and in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, 20 to 40 millimeters of rain are expected. Showers could be heavy overnight Sunday through Monday.
Along the St. Lawrence River, in the Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec, Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches regions, 30 to 50 millimeters of rain are forecast.
On the north shore of the river, the weather warning ends at the municipality of Saint-Siméon, in Charlevoix (National Capital). On the south bank, it stops before Montmagny.
In these areas, “minor land subsidence is possible,” warns Environment Canada on its website.
Thereafter, showers are expected in Montreal until Wednesday.
