Heavy rain expected in Montreal this weekend

The sunny skies of the past few days are giving way to heavy rain: Montreal will be hit by high-intensity precipitation starting Saturday afternoon.

The greater Montreal area is preparing for “two episodes of heavier rain,” says Environment Canada meteorologist Gerardo Velonza. The first will begin Saturday in the middle of the afternoon and should continue overnight, for precipitation reaching ten to 20 millimeters. After a slight lull on Sunday during the day, the rain should resume overnight from Sunday to Monday. Between 15 and 25 millimeters of precipitation are to be expected.

“We expect to have rain for a good part of the week, until Wednesday,” said Mr. Velonza. However, some showers could occur towards the end of the week.

“For Montreal, we are talking about a total of 30 to 50 millimeters” from Saturday to Wednesday, he explains. “We are in a period where we have spring floods. »

From Abitibi to the region of Quebec and Charlevoix, all of southern Quebec should be affected by the rain. However, it is in the Montreal region and in the Laurentians that the heaviest precipitation is expected.
