Eva Green wins lawsuit against ‘A Patriot’ production after London filming canceled

Eva Green is the winner in the case which opposed her to the British production company White Lantern Films. The actress had asked for her fee despite the cancellation of a contract for a science fiction film, To Patriot, whose production was finally stopped in October 2019. Eva Green then sued White Lantern Films to claim her one million dollar (918,000 euros) fee for the film, despite its cancellation. The company had decided to fight back by launching its own lawsuit against the actress, believing that she had made “unreasonable demands” and harmed the production of the film.

In a judgment rendered on Friday April 28 in London, the High Court ruled in favor of the actress and dismissed the production company. Judge Michael Green ruled that the actress did not “renounced its obligations” and has not committed any breach of contract.

Unfriendly messages

The 42-year-old actress said she was relieved that justice prevailed, saying she fought “tooth and nail” to defend a film she loved. During the trial held in January, the actress invoked her “French side” to explain the derogatory messages she sent during filming. She claimed to be “fallen in love” of the film project which was to deal with the climate crisis.

Lawyers for White Lantern Films, however, believed that the French actress had expressed “a lack of confidence and dissatisfaction” towards members of the production team. Ideas supported by WhatsApp messages in which Eva Green allegedly referred to a team member as “diabolical”of “sneaky sociopath”of “liar and crazy”. She also reportedly called production manager Terry Bird a “dumbass” and of “asshole finished”.

The actress’ lawyer, Edmund Cullen, said the messages should be read in the context of negotiations to buy the rights to the script to make it a different film. He blamed the case for making Eva Green look like a “diva”, “making headlines” And “harming his reputation”.
