Bertrand Piccard, explorer and ambassador of clean technologies, president of the Solar Impulse Foundation, details his foundation’s projects, particularly in terms of innovations in the energy sector.

The Solar Impulse foundation has launched more than 1,000 diverse and varied projects. On the 23 hours of Franceinfo set on Wednesday 8 December, the journalist from France Televisions, Claire Giroud, mentions some of them as the solar route. “It is a road which is made with a photovoltaic coating. With the energy produced by this road, we will quite simply be able to illuminate the lampposts that are located along this road”, she explains. It also highlights the rigid sail which is foldable and which “the lifespan is estimated at more than 20 years”. It would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by “10% to 30%”. The journalist also mentions the example of “photovoltaic windows” or many “new generation wind turbines”.

President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, Bertrand Piccard highlights these innovative projects but also calls for “get out of ideologies”. “When we have nuclear power plants like in France, it doesn’t make much sense to dismantle them. We must continue to use them until the end of their lifespan. But we must also see that today, wind and solar make it possible to produce electricity three to four times cheaper, at least in the entire southern part of France. So it is the market that will ultimately decide “, he analyzes.
