Years and a half after storm Alex, construction machinery is still hard at work in the Vésubie valley (Alpes-Maritimes). The workers destroy what the storm has damaged beyond repair. On October 2, 2020, it carried away dozens of buildings in its path and fragile others. More than 300 buildings are considered “at risk” by the public authorities. They must therefore be demolished.

Land classified as unbuildable

In Malaussène, Jacques Strugo comes to say goodbye to his house, built by his hands to spend his retirement there. When the storm hits, he finds himself inside. “The house held and protected me”, assures the retiree. Today, 8,000 tons of rubble accumulate behind the building, making it uninhabitable. To be able to destroy it, the State bought the house from Jacques Strugo via the Barnier fund. Land is now classified as unbuildable.
