Heavy rains hit southern Quebec

Heavy rains have been falling on southern and central Quebec since Sunday morning and will continue until Monday. Possible flooding and flooding of roads could occur warns Environment Canada.

From 40 to 70 millimeters of rain should fall until Monday in the regions of Quebec, Mauricie, Lanaudière and Drummondville. In Estrie and Montérégie, 30 to 50 millimeters of rain are expected. Greater Montreal and the Laurentians are also affected by the warning and are expected to receive 25 to 35 millimeters of rain.

The City of Montreal indicated on Sunday that it was ready to deal with possible flooding and affirms “closely monitoring, in real time, the situation on the ground”. The metropolis went into an “Alert” world last week as the level of the rivers rose. Mayor Valérie Plante said this morning on Twitter that the city is “still in intervention mode”.

More details to come.
