In Yemen, a country still at war, a stampede left more than 80 dead during a charity action.
In Sanaa, Yemen, on the evening of Wednesday April 19, a cash distribution was to take place organized by neighborhood merchants at the end of Ramadan, but the charity turned to tragedy. Due to an insane jostling, we can see on images of people put on the ground because of the crowd that is too dense and can no longer move and breathe.
A country at war for nine years
The city authorities attribute the tragedy to an excess of people in a small narrow street, when some witnesses evoke gunshots at the origin of a movement of panic. At the hospital, dozens of wounded are treated, some are between life and death. Ministers from the Houthi government, rebels who control the city came to lend their support. The country has been hit by a war for nine years and is going through one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. According to the UN, two thirds of the population require assistance and protection.
