In the Tarn, nearly 2,000 demonstrators are expected to oppose the construction project for the A69 motorway. They fear the felling of 200 trees. The Ministry of the Interior fears violence as in Sainte-Soline.

Demonstrators have settled on the future route of the A 69 motorway. At the foot of a marquee, they are ready for a weekend of protest. They multiply actions, clinging to certain trees. “We see all this and we say to ourselves that it will be destroyed, it’s absurd”, laments a participant. Determined to show their displeasure, the opponents promise a peaceful weekend.

Environmental impact

Work on the A69 began a few days ago. The motorway will make it possible to join Toulouse to Castres in one hour, against 1h15 currently. The site, classified as a priority by the State in 2019, is discussed for its ecological impact. “We are three steps from Dicosa, a nature reserve”, explains a protester. Several thousands of them are expected on site for conferences and concerts. A declaration of demonstration has been filed in the prefecture, but the authorities say they are waiting for details on his route.
