A few minutes after takeoff on Thursday, April 20, the test rocket from SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company, exploded in mid-flight. This is still a great step forward for observers.

It has only been thirty seconds since the Starship rocket took off on Thursday, April 20, and several engines are already experiencing explosions. Five are at a standstill, but the 120-meter mastodon continues its momentum in the sky. On the ground, the SpaceX teams are in heaven, then when the rocket must separate from the launcher, it stalls. It’s an explosion, but the teams continue to applaud. The test shot lasted four minutes, anything but a failure for the specialists.

“You have to consider it a success”

“You have to consider it a musical success, it’s a take-off that went well (…) and today we were able to confirm that it could take off, that’s what’s important”, explains Marie Ange Sanguy, editor-in-chief of Espace et Exploration. Elon Musk has already experienced much worse in his conquest of space. “Congratulations to the SpaceX teams for this exciting Starship test launch! We learned a lot for the next test in a few months”, he tweeted. French astronaut Thomas Pesquet also praised the company and explained on Twitter that it should not be “take a try for a failure”.
