There is no age to be in a roommate. Pensioners have decided, in order to remain independent, to live in houses which they share with other people. A good way to keep your independence.
In shared accommodation, the elderly and disabled age gently and with kindness. Genevieve Gillard moved into the house a year ago. After her stroke it was impossible for her to stay in her apartment. If she wishes, she shares her meals with the other tenants in the dining room or the kitchen, but she has her own room, like in a student roommate. Jeanne-Marie has also joined the roommate, she left her apartment in Bordeaux (Gironde) to be closer to her son and discovers with pleasure, at 82, this new life.
Postpone the EHPAD deadline
“There is freedom. We get up when we want, it’s us who do our eating”said the latter. Without counting aid, tenants spend less than 600 euros each month. And on a daily basis, they can count on their coordinator, Kathy, for their papers, shopping or activities. “GOOD people are often afraid of this stage of the EHPAD. We opened these inclusive houses to push back this deadline, to keep our autonomy as long as possible”she notes.
