Towards an increase in the salaries of Quebec MPs?

A committee recommends increasing the remuneration of elected members of the National Assembly by $30,000 per year.

If the recommendation is implemented, the annual salary of MPs would increase from $101,561 to $131,766.

Ministers’ salaries, meanwhile, would increase from $177,732 to $230,591.

Prime Minister François Legault would earn $270,120. His compensation is currently $208,200.

It was the Bureau of the National Assembly (BAN) which voted last February for the creation of the committee which looked into the remuneration of elected officials.

It was made up of former Liberal minister Lise Thériault, former PQ MP Martin Ouellet and human resources specialist Jérôme Côté.

The report mentions that MPs devote an average of 63 hours a week to their work and 10 hours a week to their business trips.

It is also said that good working conditions encourage more people to get involved in politics.
