more than 270 civilians killed in fighting since Saturday

The balance sheet is getting heavier. Fighting in Sudan has killed more than 270 civilians since Saturday, Western embassies in Khartoum reported on Wednesday (April 19th), adding that it is“a provisional report” so much the accesses are cut in the capital where there is more electricity and where the hospitals are devastated.

“The balance sheet is high” and the belligerents must “cease hostilities immediately and unconditionally” after five enamelled days of“attacks targeting civilians, diplomats and aid workers”adds the press release from the 15 embassies, including the United States, the European Union and Norway.

Civilians try to flee the capital

Thousands of civilians fled the capital of Sudan under the bombs on Wednesday. On foot or by car, on roads lined with corpses and charred armored vehicles, thousands of Sudanese are trying to come under fire, reports AFP on the spot.

Fighting between the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (FSR) of General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, known as “Hemedti”, and the regular army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, is raging. While the shots mainly hit Khartoum and Darfur (west), the two rival generals remain deaf to calls for a ceasefire.
