“Elementary”, animated film from Pixar studios, will close the Cannes Film Festival

The film will be presented out of competition, before its theatrical release on June 16 in the United States and June 21 in France. The next animated film from Disney/Pixar studios, Elementarywill have its world premiere at the close of the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 27, the organizers announced on Wednesday May 19.

Pixar had already presented three of its previous films at Cannes, up there, Vice versa And Drunk – the latter was not released in theaters but directly on the Disney+ platform in 2020. Elementary tells of the friendship betweenFlam, an intrepid and quick-witted young woman with a strong character, and Flack, a sentimental and amusing boy, rather a follower at heart“, in a city where the four elements coexist. Director Peter Sohn (Arlo’s Journey) will climb the steps, along with Pixar boss Pete Docter, on May 27 before the film premieres.

“A funny, lively and amazing film”

For Pete Docter, Pixar’s creative director, this return to the Festival has a special flavor. As we leave our pandemic cocoons to finally find ourselves in our studios and work together around writing, animation or brainstorming sessions, it is a joy and an honor to see Pixar back on the Croisette. Directed by storyteller extraordinaire Peter Sohn, Elementary is funny, full of life and, quite honestly, stunning to watch. It was created for audiences to experience on the big screen and I’m thrilled to have its world premiere at Cannes.”

To bring to life the characters who inhabit the city of Element City, Disney called on the actors Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste to lend their voices to the characters of Flam and Flack in the French version. The actress thus embodies an intrepid and quick-witted young woman while the actor plays a sentimental and endearing boy who, over the course of the adventure, will make the young hothead discover that life can be more “flowing” than she doesn’t seem there. For both of them, this is their first experience of dubbing.
